Innova Sidewinder Disc Review
The Sidewinder by Innova is designed as a distance driver. For disc golf players, the Sidewinder is beginner-friendly, easy to throw, and an essential disc golf disc for getting through difficult positions.
Being tagged as beginner-friendly, the Sidewinder is useful for disc golf players with less arm power. Even when thrown at a lower speed, the disc’s turn and glide can maximize the low speed or power output.
Even now that I am way past the beginner’s phase, the Sidewinder is still a staple in my bag. Here’s my personal take I will always go back to the Sidewinder despite the many other disc options.
- FLIGHT RATINGS - Speed 9, Glide 5, Turn -3, Fade 1
- BEST CHOICE FOR - Roller shots, narrow woods driver, downhill distance
- SMALLER ARMS - The Sidewinder is a fast flyer with a predictable high speed turn and lots of glide. This disc can add distance to anyone’s drive, but is especially useful for those with less power.
- ROLLER SHOTS - Even disc golfers who have never had much success throwing a roller shot, will be amazed at the results they can achieve with the Sidewinder.

Sidewinder for Beginners
Newer players will never go wrong with the Sidewinder. But for me, the Sidewinder should be in everyone’s bag as the disc does not need a lot of power to be thrown effectively.
With less arm power, the Sidewinder will still get extreme glide with high-speed turns. Long turnover shots with the Sidewinder are effortless as long as you have fair control and technique.
As the name suggests, the Sidewinder turns to the side which means it will turn and drift. However, the turn is more controllable, allowing more control when performing straight and hyzer flip shots.
The Sidewinder is available in different plastic grades like DX, Star, GStar, StarLite, and Champion. The DX line has the most models and weights that are reasonably priced. Meanwhile, the Star line offers more durability as well as the GStar.
StarLite on the other hand is more lightweight but with the same benefits as the Star line. But for ultimate durability, the Champion line from Innova is the choice.
Sidewinder for Experience Players
Although designed to be newbie-friendly, this does not mean that more experienced players cannot use the Sidewinder. The Sidewinder is proven to be useful when looking to throw reliable anhyzer shots.
Advanced players love the versatility of Sidewinder. Looking to carve fairways in the woods, Sidewinder will never disappoint.
With the right technique and control, the Sidewinder for most players is the disc of choice for reliability, distance, and accuracy. Advanced players will be able to utilize the Sidewinder in a multitude of situations in the field.
Believe me, the disc can almost do it all, from hyzer flips, flex shots, rollers, anhyzer, straight, and other controlled shots you can think of.
Best Used For
The Innova Sidewinder is best for distance and roller shots. But if you have learned the right techniques and control, the Sidewinder can hit more lines and be useful in most different situations. Being fairly understable, this disc is best used for slower arm speed drives and hyzer flip distance shots for more experience players.
Conclusion
Due to its versatility, the Sidewinder is a popular choice among disc golf players. From beginners who need to get more distance to players learning to throw sidearm, or rollers, the Sidewinder is the disc of choice to start.
Personally, the Sidewinder is still in my bag to stay right on wooded courses. You just need to pick the right plastic grade for durability and stability. Check out more reviews of the sidewinder here.
