A good disc golf putter is subjective. It is important to be consistent when choosing your putter of choice. Usually I would recommend going to your local disc golf store and holding a few of the most popular brands. When starting out find a putter you like a buy more then one, as putters ware down over time since they are usually one of your most used discs.
Anyone that has played disc golf understands the importance of a great disc golf putter. A disc putter might be underused and underrated but its value is more than just scoring a shot on each hole.
It is a valuable asset when certain scenarios like when you need to throw straight over any terrain. A disc putter helps you improve your control, improve your distance, and boost your confidence while on the disc golf course. One thing I was told when I started playing was I should play a few rounds with just a putter. Yes, that does sound a bit strange, but playing a putter only round can help teach you different angles and you will have more control over slower discs in the beginning.
Today, I have come up with a list of the best disc golf putters to help beginners and experienced players alike, allowing them to place these putters exactly where they want.
The Best Disc Golf Putters 2023
Innova Aviar
- Colors may vary
- Star Plastic
- Flight Ratings: Speed 2, Glide 3, Turn 0, Fade 1
This disc is the most popular putter of Innova, something that all other putters are striving to be. Being that popular, Innova Aviar is oftentimes the first recommendation for novice disc golf players. Well, this might probably be the first-ever putter that most disc golf players own. It is also feature on our list of the best disc golf discs ever.
It’s a fact that this disc has been around for years and remains popular, Aviar is not only for beginners but also as an all-around putter. At a glance, the disc has a smooth and rounded nose with a flat top.
Its dimensions are 2 cm height with 1.5 cm rim depth and enough rim thickness to give you that comfortable grip. It has no bead giving players that smooth feel. I like the feeling of ease it gives the moment you hold the disc in my hand.
When it comes to performance, Aviar works fairly and flies where you aim it. The disc can hold any line you want, provided you use a slow and controlled shot. I like the versatility and dependability Aviar provides in different level conditions. The only issue I have with Aviar is its weight, it can sometimes be a hinderence in windy conditions. After some practice it is certainly to be on anyone’s list of the best putters in disc golf.
Overall, the disc promotes reliability and a comfortable feel, giving beginners the needed confidence in the course. It is a straight flyer with a bit of bend at the end. (Side note it is my personal choice for my go to putter.)
Discraft Luna
Luna is the product of the collaboration of celebrated disc golfer Paul McBeth and Discraft which features a combination of jawbreaker plastic and rubber for durability. This is evident the moment I first checked Luna.
The melding of the primary materials provides toughness it provides while at the same time offering a great feel in the hand. I like that Luna is beadles and its ability to outlast high-speed turns. It performs well in open-style courses. Luna is the disc of choice, particularly when playing on fields with obstacles.
Although I like how Luna provides that comfortable feel in hand, I have issues with the disc when it has dirt. If playing outdoors and on a dirty field, Luna would be difficult to grip.
With that, you will have to wipe off the dirt as needed. Luna is not recommended for beginners because it is a bit overstable. But once are getting better at disc golf, Luna is a good choice to transition from the beginner’s putter.

Yikun Xing is a beginner-friendly putter for stability. The beaded disc is recommended if you are looking for a hard and stable putter that can handle high-speed winds without fading. I like the beaded design as it acts as a guide for players to improve their consistency while at the same time promoting a nice grip.
Yikun Xing can also be used on putts and approach shots providing a consistent flight. Besides, even with a hyzer flip, the disc will hold a straight flight and land within where you want it to be. So far Yikun Xing is one of the best disc golf putters I have tried. The downside though is that it only comes in base plastic, making it prone to losing its highly favored flight characteristics.
